Travelodge opens its first hotel in Sale and announces it's looking for more sites in the county

Yesterday, The Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Judith Lloyd, joined Travelodge Regional Director, Nichola Stevens, to officially open Travelodge’s first hotel in Sale which is also the company’s 18th hotel in Greater Manchester

Manchester Sale Travelodge, the company’s 533th hotel, is a 67-room office conversion hotel. It has a Bar Café offering a breakfast, dinner and bar menu and offers on-site car-parking. The hotel is located at: Citygate 1, Cross Street, Sale, Greater Manchester M33 7JR – close to: Old Trafford Football ground, Lancashire County Cricket Club and intu Trafford Centre.

The new hotel represents a £4 million investment for the landlord and has created 18 new jobs.

At the opening of Sale Travelodge, the UK’s biggest independent hotel chain also announced it’s looking to expand across the county and is looking to boost its portfolio of 18 Travelodge hotels to 25. It’s looking for new hotel sites in the following locations: Manchester city centre (2), Cheadle, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan and Worsley / Swinton. These new hotel openings will create around 200 new jobs.

Travelodge has also invested £2.5 million upgrading its existing hotels across the county in its new contemporary brand design – which has been created by customers. This includes a new modern room design and an upgraded luxury king-size bed called the Travelodge Dreamer bed. In addition all family rooms now offer individual beds for children.

Nichola Stevens, Travelodge Regional Director said: “The Greater Manchester economy is growing at pace and our new office conversion hotel in Sale, adds a great value option for visiting business and leisure travellers. We now operate 18 hotels across the county but with increasing visitor numbers to the area, there is still a shortage of good quality accommodation at a great value price. Therefore to meet this growing consumer demand we are looking for new hotel sites in: Manchester city centre (2), Cheadle, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan and Worsley / Swinton. These new hotel openings will create around 200 new jobs”

The Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Judith Lloyd, said: “I am incredibly grateful to Travelodge for the opportunity to attend the official opening of its new hotel in Sale. The addition of the Travelodge has already had a positive impact on Sale and the surrounding area by providing employment for many local residents.

The hotel is located in a fantastic location and will certainly help boost visitor numbers to the area as it provides easy access to some of Trafford’s most popular attractions such as: Old Trafford Football ground, Lancashire County Cricket Club and intu Trafford Centre, as well as Sale Waterside and Trafford Water Sports Centre.”

Sale Travelodge is being managed by Briony Donnelly who was born and raised in Sale. Briony has worked within the hotel industry for the last 14 years in Greater Manchester. Briony’s team of 17 have been recruited via Travelodge’s long term partnership with Job Centre Plus – helping the long term back into work.

Briony Donnelly, Manchester Sale Travelodge Hotel Manager said: “Not in my wildest dreams did I think that I would make be making history in Sale by managing the town’s first Travelodge hotel. I am absolutely thrilled to be given this amazing opportunity. The hotel is located in a great location and has got off to a flying start. We have been literally booked out with business customers during the week and leisure travellers at the weekend, since we opened for business. This is great news for the local economy too, as our research shows that annually Travelodge customers will spend over £2 million with local businesses during their stay with us.”

“Customers love our new upgraded contemporary room design and we have been inundated with customer requests on how they can get hold of our bespoke king size Travelodge Dreamer Bed for their home.”

Sale Travelodge offers a range of rooms which includes: family, double and accessible. A Travelodge family room caters for either two adults and two children or three adults and features separate beds for children.

To help ensure customers obtain a good quality night’s sleep, Travelodge has worked with a chronotherapy expert and introduced a sleep inducing colour palette to the room’s décor. The new Travelodge room feature wall has been painted a tranquil blue, as research shows our body clock is programmed to relate the colour blue to the hours of darkness. So when we look at the colour blue, our metabolism slows down, making us feel relaxed and sleepy.

Each room has en-suite facilities with eco-friendly showers, in-room toiletries including liquid soap, a flat screen TV with 18 free digital channels, free tea and coffee making facilities, and free Wi-Fi for 30 minutes during every stay.

Customers can kick start their day by enjoying Travelodge’s new best ever unlimited breakfast menu in the hotel Bar Café.
