The hotel team at Newcastle Central Travelodge beat 500 Travelodge hotels across the UK to win a night out whilst company bosses manage the hotel for 24 hours.
Best customer service
As a result, on Friday 14 November, guests at Newcastle Central Travelodge will be served and looked after by members of Travelodge’s top management team, whilst the hotel team get the day off work and get to enjoy an all-expenses paid night out as their prize for winning the title of being the top UK Travelodge hotel for delivering the best customer service.
The team at the 203-room hotel, which is located in the heart of the Quayside, beat off competition from colleagues across 500 UK Travelodge hotels, to achieve the highest customer satisfaction scores during the summer – the company’s busiest trading period.
The 45-strong team at Newcastle Central, one of the country’s biggest and busiest Travelodge hotels, scooped the prize after seeing their customer satisfaction scores more than double this summer.
New Receptionist – COO Jon Henry Pickup
Taking up the role of receptionist at Newcastle Central Travelodge will be Chief Operating Officer Jon Hendry Pickup and UK Operations Director Debbie Husband will oversee serving customers at the Bar Cafe. The hotel team will be made up of other senior figures from the company’s revenue management, finance, HR, sales & marketing, operations, customer service and maintenance teams.
The senior management team will serve breakfast to a high volume of customers, ensure all 203 rooms are cleaned to brand standard, check guests in from 3pm, cook and serve evening meals in the Bar Café, manage the busy bar and deliver a world class customer service over the 24 hour period.
Jon Hendry Pickup commented:
“My team and I are very excited about this challenge, we regularly spend time in hotels but this is the first time ever that the hotel is going to be operated without any hotel team members, it’s just senior management. However I do have a couple of team members who started their career working in a Travelodge hotel such as our UK Operations Director, Debbie Husband, who joined the company as a hotel manager at the Edinburgh Central Travelodge ten years ago.
“The hotel is almost completely booked out so it’s going to be a very busy 24 hours at Newcastle Central Travelodge.”
In September this year, Newcastle Central received a £800,000 make-over which has given the hotel a new contemporary look. All rooms now feature the new modern Travelodge room which has been designed by brand customers and features a luxurious king size bed called the Travelodge Dreamer. This type of bed is normally found in high-end hotels. The hotel’s Bar Café and receptions areas have all received a make-over too.
This investment at Newcastle Central Travelodge is part of a £57 million nationwide modernisation programme which has seen over 80% of Travelodge hotels across UK totally transformed with a modern fresh look and feel.
