Brown’s Hotel, the 17th century coaching inn in Tavistock, Devon has been acquired by JD Wetherspoon for its burgeoning, now 30-plus strong, hotel brand.
The 21-bedroom, award-winning, coaching inn was sold by specialist property adviser Christie + Co.off a guide price of £1.5 million for the freehold.
In addition to being Grade II listed, Brown’s Hotel holds a 4-Star Gold Award from Visit Britain, 2 AA Rosettes for food quality and a host of other awards given to both the hotel and its team in recent years.
It has the added attraction of being located in the highly-regarded market town of Tavistock, recognised as one of the gateways to the increasingly popular Dartmoor National Park.
Matthew Smith, Director of Christie + Co’s Exeter office handled the sale. He says: “Brown’s Hotel is an excellent acquisition for JD Wetherspoon and fits well with its growing hotel portfolio. The hotel has a long history of offering high standards of service to corporate and leisure clients, who return time-after-time to sample both the hotel’s high quality service and the obvious delights of the surrounding area.”
