Country living at The Windmill in ClaphamThe Windmill, the iconic pub on the edge of Clapham Common, has a new look this summer. Now with 42 beautiful boutique bedrooms and surrounded by swathes of tranquil green space, it is the go-to destination for city dwellers, business executives and tourists looking for the best of both worlds.

The Bedrooms

As well as an extensive makeover, an additional 13 bedrooms have been added to the pub, all of which ooze British character and comfort. Elegantly styled and full of quirky touches, the 42 boutique bedrooms are bright and interesting with muted green tones, tasteful soft furnishings and timber flooring juxtaposed with kooky artwork, rotary-style telephones and vibrant scatter cushions.

With freestanding roll top baths, large walk-in showers, king-sized beds and complimentary fluffy bathrobes and slippers, the three feature bedrooms have been designed to really wow. The two Common Rooms offer commanding views of the surrounding greenery, whilst the Master Suite boasts a spacious sitting area.

The bedrooms are fitted out with everything needed for a relaxing stay including Hypnos beds and crisp linen, flat-screen TVs with Sky Plus, fully-stocked mini bars and Nespresso machines. Indulgence continues into the bathrooms, which are decked out with powerful rain showers and Algotherm toiletries. Complimentary WiFi, express check-in/check-out and in-room safes means it is perfect for leisure and business stays alike.

With an elegant conservatory dining room and buzzy bar, The Windmill is the perfect place to while away the hours over a hearty meal or pull up a stool for an after-dinner nightcap. Alternatively, if the sun is shining, nab a spot on the stunning terrace to enjoy a long, languid lunch or sip mojitos.

Beautifully prepared British dishes made from carefully chosen local produce dominate the menu. Home-grown fare includes ginger spiced scallops with beansprouts; spring pea and Dingley Dell ham knuckle risotto; and British asparagus en croute with duck egg, baby plum tomatoes, baby spinach and hollandaise.

Young’s have served cask ales for over 180 years, so expect an extensive selection that changes seasonally alongside a wide range of draught and bottled lagers and a varied wine list.

The Function Room

Also, newly refurbished is the private Blue Room, ideal for business events, family celebrations and weddings. For seminars, training days and presentations, it can host up to 30 delegates and provides the latest technology and complimentary WiFi. With a wide range of menus, from sit-down dinners and buffets to cocktail and canapé receptions, it’s also the perfect venue for a celebration.

The Location

With 200 acres of green space on its doorstep and only a short journey into central London, The Windmill is well placed for those looking to discover the capital but also craving peace and quiet. Guests can browse the boutique shops dotted along the high street, take leisurely strolls on the Common or visit the nearby Venn Street Farmers’ Market before returning to settle on the sun-soaked terrace with a glass of crisp white wine. For business trips, the setting offers the benefits of being close to the big city without being in the concrete jungle itself, with central London just 30 minutes away and Heathrow and Gatwick airports both only an hour’s drive.
