The re-opening of a Lake District resort hotel on the shores of Windermere is bringing a range of new employment opportunities for local people and others with vital experience in the hospitality sector.

The development of Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa into the first luxury resort hotel in the area has resulted in a fresh recruitment drive for over 15 new posts, ranging from pastry chefs and night porters to bar supervisors and management staff.

English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues is bringing new facilities to the resort and spa, including additional bedrooms, improved infrastructure and renewable energy features.  The project is eventually aiming to create 30 full time equivalent jobs, on top of the hotel’s original workforce head count, with a focus on sustainable tourism.

The new jobs include roles for a chef de partie and pastry chef within the resort’s new culinary team, as well as various ‘front of house’ restaurant, conference and banqueting posts for assistants and a supervisor.

Recruitment for housekeeping roles include a room attendant, public area cleaner and floor supervisors, whilst there is also a vacancy within the hotel’s management team for a guest relations and duty manager.

In food & beverage, the hotel is looking for bar service assistants and a bar supervisor.  There are also roles available for reception and porter staff, and the leisure club is seeking a spa receptionist, a housekeeper and laundry assistant and a fitness instructor.  For watersports and the marina, a general assistant and watersports instructor are required.

Nevil Jeffery, the general manager at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, says:  “As the construction work to transform the hotel into a luxury resort is progressing and our scheduled opening date draws nearer, we are now looking closely at the recruitment of dedicated catering and hospitality professionals across several key disciplines.

“We have been able to retain our original team within the hotel group, and others who were on temporary contracts will be returning too, but these additional new roles will add to the excitement of the new resort opening its doors for the first time in April after the first phase of our work has been completed.”

Infrastructure improvements for the opening of Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa include the creation of a new, dedicated entrance to the site, contemporary atrium linking all the resort facilities and significant renewable energy provisions, as well as 46 new bedrooms, new restaurant facilities, health club, a multi sports pitch, an indoor spa, an outdoor spa with hot tubs, a heated infinity pool and a sauna.
