Quy Mill Hotel & Spa starts 2017 on a high after scooping a prestigious award that is given to a very small but growing selection of the highest quality hotels.

The Hotel is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded the coveted Silver Star status by the AA for its four-star rating, one of the top accolades in the hospitality industry, in recognition of its high standards of quality, comfort and hospitality.  Quy Mill is the first and only hotel in Cambridge to have received Silver Star status, making it the top-rated four-star hotel in the city and surrounding areas.

The award is defined as being for “Highly recommended hotels offering a superior level of quality within their star rating, high standards of hotel keeping, in particular, hospitality, service and cleanliness and an AA Rosette award for the quality of their food.” The Hotel’s restaurant, which is open to guests and non-residents, has retained its two AA rosettes for culinary excellence.

Hotel General Manager, Tony Murdock, who is delighted with the award, said: “This is a fantastic start to the new year and complements a very successful 2016. To have achieved these results is something we’re incredibly proud of and are working hard at continuing in 2017 and beyond. This is all thanks to the incredible team here at Quy Mill, each of whom go the extra mile to ensure that everyone who visits the Hotel and Restaurant, whether guest or non-resident, has the best time possible. The award recognises their hard work towards our exceptional standards.

“Quy Mill Hotel has continued to grow in recent years by jumping from three to four-star status in March 2015, followed by this award less than two years later. Much of this phenomenal growth is down to the work we have done building the hotels profile within our local community in both business and leisure sectors.”

David Munro, Chairman of the Munro Group which owns the Hotel, commented: “When Munro Group Invested in Quy Mill Hotel over 15 years ago, the ambition was to achieve four star. There have been eight phases of development over the years, culminating in four-star recognition last year. To now achieve Silver Star status – and become the only one in Cambridge to do so – really is icing on the cake. A fantastic achievement for Tony Murdock and his team!”

The historic hotel, built in 1830 as a watermill and house, is nestled in the countryside within the charming village of Stow-cum-Quy four miles outside of Cambridge. It features 51 rooms, including deluxe four-poster rooms, an award-winning restaurant, conference, wedding and banqueting facilities, a five-acre field for corporate events, an air-conditioned gym, health spa, indoor swimming pool, helipad, unlimited free parking and beautiful landscaped gardens.

The Hotel also boasts a 2 AA Rosette restaurant, The Mill House. Under Head Chef Gavin Murphy, the Restaurant offers a menu influenced by the season and uses the best produce sourced from predominantly local suppliers to bring a taste of Cambridge to the table. It boasts an intimate dining experience with stunning views over the manicured gardens and an open fire. While the Celtic Bar & Lounge features a selection of real ales and a rare collection of over 50 malt whiskies.

In addition, the Quy Mill Hotel & Spa is home to The Cambridge ROAR, the only Festival of its kind in the region. Founded by the Hotel’s General Manager, Tony Murdock, The Festival exists to support charities that help local people and to date has raised almost £60,000 for these charities. The Festival offers a series of fun events, from comedy nights to glitzy balls, all the while raising much-needed funds for the charities it supports. 100% of the profits from these events go to charity.
