One of Bristol’s leading city-centre hotels is experiencing a significant rise in the number of guests coming from Iceland.
Nationals from the North Atlantic island are now descending on the West Country capital attracted by the excellent shopping, favourable exchange rate and fact that there are now direct flights to and from Reykjavik.
It’s resulted in the Hampton by Hilton hotel, which is located on the corner of York Street and Bond Street, to welcome more and more Icelandic men and women keen to make the most of all that Bristol has to offer.
Imran Ali, general manager at the popular venue is now hoping the rise in visitors from Iceland, as well as continental Europe, will help cement Bristol as one of the top tourist destinations for those visiting the UK.
Imran said: “The opening of the direct flights to Iceland has undoubtedly attracted more people from the country to come and visit Bristol. The ease at which they can then get from the airport to the city centre also helps.
“When we chat to the Icelanders they cite a variety of reasons why they have come, with shopping being high on the list plus Bristol’s maritime history. They are also keen to take in the various shows at the Hippodrome or Colston Hall as these rarely make it across the North Atlantic.
“Factors influencing people’s decision to stay with us include our central location, being opposite Cabot Circus, excellent price point and fact that we’re part of the Hilton group.
“Luckily for us the Icelanders coming today have a peaceful inclination unlike their Viking ancestors and we haven’t experienced yet the Viking Thunder Clap made famous by the national football team in the recent Euros!
“We’ll now be brushing up on our Icelandic to make their stay in Bristol even more welcoming.”
