Flurry of accommodation given ‘Superior’ status 2 (2)

A flurry of accommodation providers have been awarded Cumbria Tourism’s Quality Cumbria ‘Superior’ status, given to properties of exceptional quality which outperform the ‘standard’ Quality Cumbria rating.

Backed by the national tourist board, VisitEngland, Quality Cumbria was originally set up by Cumbria Tourism in 2007 to drive up standards of visitor accommodation across the county, and is now one of the most popular initiatives of its kind in the country.

Out of 1000s of accommodation providers across Cumbria, a total of 13 now hold ‘Superior’ status, an additional grading introduced in 2014 to recognise those businesses which far exceed the usual Quality Cumbria standard.

The latest five businesses to receive the ‘Superior’ grading from the Quality Cumbria assessors are:

  • Sharrow Bay, Ullswater
  • Rothay Garden Hotel, Grasmere
  • Raise View Guest House, Grasmere
  • Mount Hooley Lodge, Alston
  • Low Hall Bed & Breakfast, Penrith

Gaynor Anderson, Quality Cumbria Assistant at Cumbria Tourism, says, “The Superior Quality mark was introduced to reward the ‘best of the best’ and is given at the discretion of independent assessors who judge from the highest level of quality criteria. Those businesses who make the grade really do go the extra mile for their customers.”

Heather James, Marketing Manager at Sharrow Bay, says, “Following a change of management at Sharrow Bay we decided we had to earn fresh testimonials and accreditation for the hotel. The original owners who started the hotel were icons of the hospitality industry, and a tough act to follow. It was important to us that our achievements were recognised as such, and that we were not assumed to be trading on old reputations.

“We were thrilled when we were told we’d been awarded the Superior Accolade, it validated the continuous hard work of all the staff here and the great work they do in making sure visitors to this special part of the Lakes have such a good experience.”
