The sky’s the limit for a hotel receptionist who is raising valuable funds for a charity close to her heart.

Amy Birch, who works at the Campanile Hotel in Basildon, has been inspired by her mum’s battle with cancer to take on an epic 13,000 ft skydive in aid of charity on Saturday, 8 October at Beccles Airfield in Suffolk.

The 21-year-old, from Billericay, is raising funds for the Lady McFadden Breast Cancer Trust after mother Claire beat breast cancer twice – most recently in 2011.

But Amy, who gave birth to daughter Ella less than two months ago and has never attempted a skydive before, said she can only hope to raise as much as her mother’s previous fundraising efforts – which raised more than £2,000 from a bungee jump.

“I’ve never fundraised before, so it’ll be a big challenge – I’m very nervous,” she said.

“I’m hoping to raise around £500 which won’t quite meet my mum’s efforts, but I’ll be jumping a much further distance than she did!

“The offer to skydive for charity was offered through Campanile, so I volunteered to take it on – although it had to be postponed a while once I discovered I was pregnant!

“Both the team and guests have been really supportive of the challenge, if a little surprised. I think every guest who has stayed has made a donation to our collection boxes, and staff have all been keen to contribute in any way they can.”

Campanile hotel in Basildon is part of Louvre Hotels Group, which owns and manages 400 hotels across seven different countries including the UK, Spain, Belgium and China.

Matthew Filmer, general manager at Campanile hotel, said: “There is a real community culture at our hotel, which was why we were keen to promote the skydiving opportunity to our members of staff.

“We were delighted when Amy offered to step up to the plate. It’ll be a fantastic experience she will never forget, and all for a fantastic cause.

“We wish her the best of luck and hope she raises every penny of her target.”
