Pride of Britain Hotels, the collection of independent luxury and boutique hotels, is delighted to announce two new members – Glenapp Castle in Scotland and The Headland Hotel in Cornwall – bringing the membership to 49 hotels.
Glenapp Castle, Ballantrae, Scotland
Standing high above the dramatic Ayrshire coast in the southwest of Scotland’s historic lowlands, Glenapp is a family owned baronial castle set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, complete with fairy tale turrets towers and oak-panelled rooms. The seventeen bedrooms (20 as of 1 April 2017) are individually styled with carefully sourced furnishings, fabrics, antiques and art, all with open fires for the winter months. Glenapp is renowned for its service and cuisine, and the restaurants source many of their ingredients from the Hotel’s gardens, complementing local Scottish produce, which creates a memorable and authentic dining experience. There are numerous on-site activities including, tennis, clay-pigeon shooting, boat trips, falconry displays, croquet, wildlife photography and foraging. Glenapp also designs its own guest experiences, ranging from island whisky distillery tours, utilising its own boat, to world class golf. There are also a range of local cultural experiences on offer such as, private dining in the Eisenhower Suite at the nearby Culzean Castle.
The Headland Hotel, Newquay, Cornwall
A grand Victorian redbrick mansion set on a clifftop overlooking Fistral Bay, The Headland Hotel offers elegant interiors, 96 beautiful bedrooms and 39 private cottages. Executive Chef Christopher Archambault serves fresh seafood and local dishes, from potted Cornish crab and shrimps to roast Cornish sirloin. The hotel’s Surf Sanctuary runs surfing, kite surfing and stand-up paddle-boarding lessons from Fistral Beach, one of Europe’s best surf spots. A state-of-the-art spa includes a heated pool, Swedish sauna, aromatherapy showers, hot tub and Cornish sea salt steam room. There’s also a sleek gym and a range of outdoor fitness classes on offer.
