Travelodge opens its first hotel in Weston-Super-Mare

Today, the Mayor of Weston-super-Mare, Councillor Raymond Armstrong, joined Travelodge Chief Operating Officer, Jon Hendry Pickup, to officially open the company’s first hotel in the famous seaside town.

Weston-super-Mare Travelodge, the company’s 526th hotel, is an 84-room hotel with a Bar Café. The hotel represents an investment value of £6.5 million and has created 22 new jobs.

Located on Beaufighter Road right next to the Weston Business Quarter, the hotel is ideally located to serve both leisure and business customers.

The hotel features the company’s brand new contemporary brand look throughout, which has been designed by customers. All rooms feature the new bespoke, luxurious king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed. In addition individual beds have been introduced for children in all family rooms. The hotel reception and Bar Café area are also designed in the company’s brand new look.

Travelodge recently completed a three-year £100 million modernisation programme across all of its UK hotels, meaning all Travelodge hotels now offer this new look and a consistent quality room experience to guests, updated for the needs of modern travellers.

Travelodge currently operates six hotels across Somerset and to meet the rising demand from business and leisure customers for good value accommodation, Travelodge has embarked on an expansion drive to open a further 250 hotels across the UK. At today’s opening ceremony, Travelodge Chief Operating Officer Jon Hendry Pickup announced that Travelodge is seeking to open a further four hotels across Somerset. The locations include: Bath, Keynsham, Minehead and Yeovil.

This proposed Somerset expansion programme is expected to represent a total investment value of £20 million and will create 75 new jobs.

“Whilst this is our sixth hotel in Somerset, we’re definitely not finished here. With increased demand for good value and quality accommodation across the county there is still huge potential for Travelodge to grow further. We are looking to open another four hotels in the county, which will create 75 new jobs for people in Somerset.”

The hotel is being managed by Caroline Lewis who joins Travelodge after working in retail management for almost 20 years. Caroline used the Company’s partnership with the Job Centre Plus – which helps the long term unemployed back into work – to recruit her team.

We are already enjoying high occupancy with leisure customers and families, and the Easter holidays are almost full already which is great. We are also enjoying strong occupancy from business customers during the week too, as businesses in the area also look for great quality at good value.”
