From Thursday March 3 till Friday 8 April The Club at Café Royal, in collaboration with Opera Gallery, will host an exhibition featuring the most iconic works of New York street art artist SEEN (Richard “Richie” Mirando). The iconic members’ club overlooking Regent Street will display the artist’s most recent works: SEEN has revisited his passion for superheroes to paint a series of canvas works inspired by some Marvel and DC Comic’s most famous characters such a Spiderman, Wonder Woman and Wile E. Coyote, as celebration of the American pop culture.
Graffiti godfather SEEN started on the New York subways at the age of 11, spray-painting trains. His crew United Artists (or simply UA) quickly gained the reputation for producing full-colour throw-ups on whole cars which became iconic images in their own right. For the next 16 years his pieces were running across the city and on all lines. It was during the very early 1980s that SEEN started producing work on canvas, shown by galleries and bought by museums and private collectors across the globe. He has been exhibited alongside Banksy, Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.
Visitors can access the exhibition by organising a pre-arranged visit.
The visit will be free of charge. Suggested time for an ideal visit is Monday to Saturday, from 8 am to 6 pm.
