The Set appoints Thomas Kochs as Managing Director of Café Royal

The Set, the hotel collection behind Café Royal, London, Conservatorium, Amsterdam and the Lutetia, Paris is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Kochs as Managing Director for Café Royal. Thomas joins the company as The Set continues to build and develop Café Royal as a truly iconic luxury destination in the London market. With Thomas comes a wealth of experience in luxury hospitality, most recently from some of London’s most renowned and notable hotels.

Thomas held the position of General Manager of Claridge’s part of Maybourne Hotel Group for the past five years, during which time he has continued to build upon the hotel’s heritage; developing and refining the hotels’ restaurant and bars including the acclaimed partnership with Chef Simon Rogan to bring ‘Fera’ to Claridge’s.

Thomas’s career with Maybourne Hotel Group spans 15 years during which time he has held Hotel Management positions in two of the company’s properties including the relaunch and opening of the Connaught.

The old and the new are notoriously difficult to blend successfully yet The Set creates a beauty out of tension, and strives to have the best of both worlds where heritage meets contemporaneity, this is why we say our hotels are ‘Beautifully Composed’. They are inspired by the artistic and imaginative heritage of their Grand Dame buildings and their iconic cultural city centre locations.

Thomas Kochs says “I am excited to be joining the team at Café Royal, one of the most beautiful buildings in London with fascinating heritage and history to work with. Café Royal is already ‘London’s Living Room’, a place for minds to come together and creativity to flourish, where guests can connect to and enjoy the hotel’s offering. Café Royal as a hotel is three years young and at this point is clearly ready to take the next step in its journey. There are exciting things to come, which I am thrilled to be a part of”.

Georgi Akirov, Chairman of The Set remarks “We are delighted and enthused for this latest appointment to our senior team at The Set hotels. We look forward to working with Thomas to continue our journey towards achieving our vision of creating stimulating and ‘beautifully composed’ experiences for our guests”.

About The Set

The Set reinvents Grand Dame properties at the heart of some of Europe’s greatest cities – transforming them into diverse, dynamic places where people and ideas intersect and culture is formed.

Under the visionary craft of world leading architects; Piero Lissoni in Amsterdam and Sir David Chipperfield in London, these existing landmarks have been reincarnated for the modern day to continue their legacy as iconic meeting places and venues for ground breaking and imaginative social events. This continues under the mastery of Jean-Michelle Wilmotte’s reimagination of the Lutetia, Paris, opening in 2017.

Creating the best of both worlds where heritage meets contemporaneity, we say our hotels are ‘Beautifully Composed’. At the heart of Beautifully Composed is the act of curation. The expert blending of old & new, grandeur & simplicity, international & local, sophisticated & playful. We offer our guests a Beautifully Composed experience around their personal tastes and passions – delivered by an intuitive and intelligent service.

Great art respects the rules even as it breaks them; it understands and honours the past even as it weaves a new future. We create our hotels in the same spirit, discover them for yourself and experience our take on the art of the iconic: elegant, exciting and beautifully composed.
