Hotel du Vin to open in heart of Stratford upon AvonIconic hotel brand set to create over 60 jobs when it opens its doors to luxury in 2017.

The Malmaison Hotel du Vin Group, the leading UK boutique hotel brand and a member of the Frasers Hospitality Group is pleased to announce that it has now received full planning permission and listed building consent to create a new luxurious 48 bedroom Hotel du Vin in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. The plans, that will see the transformation of two Georgian listed buildings on Rother Street into a Hotel du Vin, were approved by Stratford District Council on 24th February 2016.

News of the new highly stylised hotel comes during a period of significant growth for the Malmaison and Hotel du Vin brands. It follows the acquisition of four hotels from Swire Properties in December 2015 (The Avon Gorge Hotel in Bristol, The Seattle Hotel in Brighton, The Magdalen Chapter Hotel in Exeter and The Chapter Hotel in Cheltenham) and during a nationwide investment programme across both its Malmaison and Hotel du Vin brands.

Facilities at the hotel will include 48 luxurious bedrooms, the famous bistro du vin, meeting and private dining rooms and a separate banqueting room with the capacity to seat 80. The development of the Grade II listed buildings will be undertaken by S Harrison in partnership with Stratford Town Trust. The hotel is expected to create 45 new full time and 20 part time jobs.

Paul Roberts, CEO of Malmaison Hotel du Vin, said: “We are extremely excited about opening Hotel du Vin in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon. The hotel’s lifestyle brand is a perfect fit for those attracted to the stunning and thought-provoking Shakespearean sites that make Stratford-upon-Avon such a global destination. This development represents Malmaison Hotel du Vin’s significant growth prospects and commitment to deliver exceptional customer experience in stunning surroundings.”

Helen Munro, chief executive of Stratford Town Trust, which owns the site, said: “This is fantastic news for Stratford – we have no doubt Hotel du Vin will be a superb addition to the town. The Trust has been looking for some time at ways to enhance the Rother Street area – with our investment in the new Stratford ArtsHouse, work underway on a brand new shopping and leisure complex at Bell Court and now the arrival of Hotel du Vin, the future is very exciting.”

Chris Hale, design manager for S Harrison, adds: “We’re delighted to be given the go-ahead to create a truly exceptional hotel and bistro in the heart of Stratford. This scheme is the result of three years of partnership working between S Harrison, Stratford Town Trust, Hotel du Vin and council officers. The response to our proposals has been overwhelmingly positive and there’s no doubt this development will be a welcome addition to the Rother Street community and the town’s economy as a whole.”

Further site investigation work will start almost immediately with construction work commencing in spring 2016. The hotel will open in summer 2017.
