The Lucky Onion expands

The Lucky Onion, the Cotswold-based collective of hotels and restaurants owned by husband and wife team Sam and Georgie Pearman has announced that they will be expanding their portfolio from Spring 2016 after acquiring two new sites.

No. 131 The Promenade

In Cheltenham, The Lucky Onion’s newest property, the award winning Georgian villa No. 131 The Promenade (pictured above), which opened originally in 2013, will double in size adding a further 11 bedrooms to make 22 rooms in total. A florist, coffee shop and bakery will be new additions at the front of the building, while inside a large communal sitting room will be added and the restaurant will double the number of covers to accommodate larger dining groups. Outside, an extended seating area will also make space for an outdoor bar, fire pits and additional sofas.

The Wild Duck

In the Cotswolds, The Lucky Onion have purchased The Wild Duck in the quaint village of Ewen, Gloucestershire. The 16th century Inn will close early in the new year for a full refurbishment and will re-open in late summer with 12 bedrooms, all individually designed by Georgie Pearman. In a similar style that regulars will be accustomed to at The Wheatsheaf in Northleach, The Wild Duck will be a comfortable and stylish country Inn with a touch of luxury in the bedrooms.

Kitchen teams

With their new and existing properties, the group continue to focus on their commitment to offering the very best hospitality and quality of service for their guests, and have made two recent appointments to their kitchen teams.

James de Jong will join The Tavern in Cheltenham after spending the last six years honing his skills in London as Head Chef of The Draper’s Arms and more recently at Mission Wine Bar and Kitchen, which has received several positive reviews under his direction. James will bring his signature nose-to-tail ethos and seasonal cooking to The Tavern’s already critically acclaimed Modern American and British menu.

At No.131 The Promenade, Alan Gleeson will join as Head Chef from his previous position at Michelin Pub of the Year 2015, The Wild Rabbit, in nearby Kingham. With a commitment to sourcing the very best seasonal and local ingredients he will build on No.131’s modern British menu.

Important period of growth

All of this, along with the recent launch of The Lucky Onion Drinks Academy earlier this year, which brings on board respected professionals from the drinks and bar industry to run a talent-driven programme for their group’s bar staff, will mark an important period of growth for The Lucky Onion.

Their popular programme of foodie pop ups and supper clubs as part of ‘The Lucky Onion Club Presents Series…’ is also set to continue in 2016 with an exciting line-up including the renowned Fergus Henderson in January cooking a pig feast at The Chequers in Churchill, Valentine Warner will follow with a three course foraged supper at The Wheatsheaf, and Gizzi Erskine will pop-up at Michelin Bib Gourmand winner, The Tavern, in Cheltenham cooking a selection of dishes from her new cookbook, ‘Healthy Appetite’.

The Lucky Onion comprises chefs, restauranteurs, sommeliers, hoteliers, graphic designers, artists and interior designers who all have a passion for travel, food and drink and design believing in exceptional service and hospitality. The group is owned and managed by Sam and Georgie Pearman and currently includes boutique hotels No. 131 The Promenade and No. 38 The Park in Cheltenham, critically acclaimed The Wheatsheaf Inn in Northleach and Cotswold restaurants The Tavern and The Chequers. The couple will add to their collective in 2016 following the acquisition of The Wild Duck in Ewen, and the expansion of No. 131 The Promenade in Cheltenham.
