A major hotel in mainland Britain’s northernmost town has been put up for sale. The Royal Hotel has a commanding position on the main street in Thurso, where it occupies almost an entire block.
Thurso is a busy and sizeable community – the decommissioning of nearby Dounreay provides continuous employment – and with a railway terminus and the main ferry point to Orkney, the town is an excellent base from which to tour the northern reaches of the UK.
The 103-bedroom Royal Hotel can cater for almost 200 guests, with a dining room, lounges, bar and brasserie. It is being sold by London-based property investors, who bought the Royal in 2005 as part of a move into northern Britain and are now seeking to rationalise their property portfolio. Included with the property is a separate five-bedroom Victorian villa ideal for managers or owners.
Colliers International is inviting offers around £1,100,000 plus VAT for the Royal Hotel, Thurso.
