With Glasgow set to welcome three new hotels in the coming months, which will collectively add nearly 400 rooms to the city’s accommodation stock, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau Chief Executive Scott Taylor believes developer confidence is at an all-time high.
The 120-room Village Hotel will open at Pacific Quay this month, while the 170-room Travel Lodge will open its doors on Queen Street in the city centre later in the summer and the 101-room ibis Styles Hotel located in the heart of city’s Merchant City is scheduled to open in October.
Events and conferences
Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “It’s no secret that we’re a go-to destination for major events and international conferences with substantial visitor and delegate footfall guaranteed as far in advance as 2022.
“The opening of three new hotels is a clear indication that confidence is at an all-time high in Glasgow.
“The new openings will drive job creation and boost our already thriving tourism and hospitality sector, an industry that supports the employment of some 30,000 people.
“Last year Glasgow’s reputation for its warmth and hospitality was reaffirmed by travel publication Rough Guides when it was awarded the World’s Friendliest City status; an accolade which was proven time and time again as we welcomed hundreds of thousands of people during the best ever Commonwealth Games.
“This combined investment of more than £20million is the perfect bellwether for anyone interested in how Glasgow’s tourism industry is performing.”
Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) is celebrating its 10th birthday in 2015. As the city of Glasgow’s official destination marketing organisation, GCMB is custodian of the PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW brand. Working with partners, stakeholders and businesses, GCMB’s remit is to position and promote Glasgow across national and international markets as one of the world’s most vibrant, dynamic and diverse cities in which to live, work, study, invest and visit.
