MGallery Collection welcomes Queens Hotel, Cheltenham and Castle Hotel, Windsor

Every MGallery property has a story waiting to be shared. Strong personalities and great histories are elegantly expressed though each hotel’s unique identity, their story unfolding through eclectic details, timeless touches and elegant designs.

And the two latest additions to MGallery in the UK are certainly consistent with this philosophy.

Elegant History: Queens Hotel, Cheltenham

The hotel was originally completed in 1838 on the site of the Sherborne spa, after it was moved stone by stone, further down the Promenade. Named in honour of the sovereign, the hotel first opened on the 21st July 1838, the year of Queen Victoria’s coronation. It was later listed as a Grade II English Heritage building in acknowledgment of its opulent design and stunning details.

Reviving the source of Her heritage

Queens Hotel has a strong and unique personality, truly reflected through carefully crafted décor and the loving and loyal restoration of timeless details. Listed features harmoniously blend with contemporary touches, elegantly reviving the hotel’s heritage. In the lobby, guests are drawn to intimate seating areas rather than a formal desk and a stunning tiled floor gracefully balances the high ceiling. Listed wallpaper designed by Pugin, famed also for designing the interior of the Palace of Westminster, lines the walls of the iconic and beautifully preserved staircase which invites guests to discover the hotel’s opulent heritage features.

The staircase leads visitors to elegant guestrooms, which include twenty eight stylish Superior Rooms and four exquisite Suites.

Queens Hotel is neighboured by a collection of beautifully preserved Regency buildings and sits prominently overlooking the groomed Imperial Square Gardens and Cheltenham Town Hall, home of many of the town’s festivals. Imposing style and finesse, the hotel has welcomed guests as impressive and distinguished as its own history. Eminent historical figures have graced its walls including General Sir Charles Napier, the musician Edward Elgar, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and King George III, who spent five weeks in Cheltenham to drink its medicinal waters.

The Queens restaurant

Offers guests a true taste of the area with a menu consisting of fresh, quality produce sourced from local farms and artisans. Whether guests choose to dine in the restaurant, the Orangery or garden exquisite culinary dishes will truly reflect the royal address and its locality.

The Sherbourne Pump, the hotel’s ornate bar, offers an intimate atmosphere for guests to relax and absorb the peaceful ambience and enchanting echoes of a regal past as they recline in one of the luxurious armchairs and admire the listed solid carved wooden bar, a gift from India to Lord Napier.

An elegant and timeless hotel, the hotel is the pefect destination for visitors to the historic spa town, offering a quintessentially British experience built on grandeur and a spectacular history.

Castle Hotel, Windsor adds to the Collection

The Castle Hotel Windsor also joins the unique and remarkable collection of MGallery hotels as of September 2015. Blending a rich past with contemporary charm this hotel truly makes a mark on history.

Castle Hotel, Windsor invites visitors to take a walk though time and enjoy a true sense of the hotel’s fascinating story, past and present. A sense of pride and boldness is blended with simplicity and consideration to create a memorable and unique setting.

A colourful past

Castle Hotel, Windsor began its story as a simple inn dating back to 1528.  In the mid 1600’s it became, ‘The Mermaid Inn’ and its innkeeper, George Pennington, quickly grew in reputation and influence, a personality to behold at the helm of what became Windsor’s oldest inn. In 1656 he issued a half penny token bearing the image of a mermaid and he went on to hold great stature in the town. Times were turbulent and under George Pennington’s direction the Mermaid Inn continued to make a mark on Windsor, brewing its own beer and cider. In the mid 1700’s its new inn keeper, Richard Martin, postmaster of Windsor and Hackney man to his Majesty, received his first Royal Warrant and the inn became an official posting inn. After a century of success it eventually became known as the ‘Castle Inn’ and by the end of the 18th Century, was regarded as one of the finest inns in town, a reputation it ensues today.

A hotel grounded in history

Today its strong personality and fascinating history are subtly woven throughout the hotel and the footprints left by the guests over the centuries are palpable. A classic and elegant Georgian building is the main bearer of the hotel’s history, location, prestige and style through time; both charmingly weathered and discerningly refined whilst simpler yet stylish and authentic surroundings provide a reminder of its busy stables and post horses days.

Making a Mark on History

Castle Hotel’s understated yet luxurious rooms include five exquisite suites named after royal warrant holders, which feature plush bedding, bathrooms rich in indulgence, a beautiful reading corner and quirky references to the five royal warrant holders whom are woven throughout the property’s history.

Guests also have the pleasure of observing Windsor’s Changing of the Guards, a great British tradition that truly allows them to experience the real Windsor from the charming comfort of their room or an intimate seat in the beautiful British Lounge.

Should visitors wish to explore beyond the hotel’s walls, the charm and character of Windsor and the historic high street on which the hotel is located is but steps away. The quaint cobbled streets of the market town paint a picture of the property’s history whilst popular attractions such as Windsor Castle, Savill Garden, Legoland and Ascot are located nearby.
