The Fish – a new affordable boutique hotel in the Cotswolds – has opened its doors. It sits on the same privately owned 400-acre estate as one of the Cotswolds most celebrated luxury hotels, Dormy House and the exclusive eight-bedroom, private house hotel, Foxhill Manor which opened in March this year. The Fish is part of an extensive redevelopment and brand new type of accommodation for the Farncombe Estate. Rooms start from £125 per night.
Andrew Grahame, CEO Farncombe Estate commented:
“The opening of The Fish is another significant milestone for Farncombe as it brings together both a new type of accommodation and the wide range of activities we offer on the estate. This very exciting addition will not only enable us to reach more leisure and corporate guests, but also serves to demonstrate that price doesn’t have to mean compromising on style and service.”
Working with interior designer Hannah Lohan, the team has created a contemporary rustic yet cosy look for The Fish, with a touch of Scandi in homage to the estate’s owners. It is laid out in a village-style with the guestrooms (43 standard and superior rooms and four junior suites) spread throughout three refurbished buildings; The Farmhouse, The Outhouse and The Stables. A palette of greens, greys, blues and splashes of yellow create light, bright and airy guestrooms with little touches including hand-made furniture, fresh flowers, speciality teas and cafetieres.
The “village” is also home to extensive facilities for meetings and retreats for up to 120 delegates. There are a host of activities right on the doorstep from Segway safaris around the estate, to hot air ballooning, clay pigeon shooting, archery, quad bikes and golf at the Broadway Golf Club. Something for everyone.
Last but not least, The Fish might be miles from the sea and a good hike to the nearest river, but the name does have its reason. Legend has it that the Benedictine Monks of Evesham Abbey used to keep and cure their fish stocks in caves hewn into the hillside, so the sloped pathway soon became known as Fish Hill. Today it is a wiggly part of the A44 that runs parallel to the estate. The Monks may have long-gone, as has the Abbey which was demolished in the 16th century, but the name they left, now lives on…
The Fish is a 21st century boutique hotel where family, friends and business colleagues can head to enjoy all that the Cotswolds offers in a relaxed, calm and affordable way.
