Boris supports employment opportunities at InterContinental London - The O2Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has visited the InterContinental London – The O2, ahead of its launch in Autumn/Winter 2015.

The Mayor joined Surinder Arora, CEO and Founder of the Arora Group on a private tour of the luxury 453-room hotel development, backing its investment in the capital and generation of more than 500 new jobs, including 25 apprenticeship opportunities.

Speaking on the roof of the 18-storey hotel, the Mayor commented, “The InterContinental London – The O2 is an amazing structure and a sensational new hotel for London, with one of the biggest ballrooms in any European hotel and what will be a knock-out James Bond style rooftop bar with these breathtaking views.

“London is the number one commercial and cultural capital of the world and this impressive development will bring hundreds of employment opportunities into the area and is testament to both the confidence in our city and the strength and breadth of the economic recovery in the UK. What an amazing experience.”

500 full and part-time jobs

Surinder Arora added, “We are delighted to have welcomed the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson to our forthcoming InterContinental London – The O2 today.  A hotel of this size brings a wealth of business and leisure facilities to this vibrant part of the capital including 453 bedrooms and 4,500sqm of event space representing a substantial part of the Peninsula’s ongoing development and generating in excess of 500 full and part time jobs.

“We are working with Greenwich Local Labour & Business (GLLAB) scheme to place 40% of the hotel’s headcount from within Greenwich and the surrounding areas as well as recruiting up to 25 apprentices across the hotel, supporting our strategy to recruit and develop the best home grown talent in London and we are thrilled to have the Mayor’s support.”

The InterContinental® London – The O2 is the largest conference and leisure hotel to open for decades in the capital, with over 4,500sqm of events space, including one of Europe’s largest pillar-free ballrooms as well as a luxury spa and an eclectic mix of destination restaurants and bars.

The hotel is managed and operated by the Arora Group under franchise agreement with InterContinental® Hotels Group (IHG).
